At San Jacinto College with a different bench.
My goal today was to find continuous, connected movement. When exploring a new prop/location it is really easy for me to become disjointed. The movement comes out in little fragments, small explorations that are short and fleeting. My goal today was keep exploring each movement until it naturally developed into something else. I also challenged myself to create an ending by repeating what I remembered from the beginning. I think that in order to use improvisation in a performance setting you have to have knowledge of where you've been in the performance- it is a balance of being present in the moment and knowing where you came from.
More movement on the bench at Claire School of Dance. I really want to buy a video camera here soon, and I have a few ideas on how to incorporate different benches/locations into a film. I want a solo dancer, and I thought of maybe a "Goldilocks" theme. Trying out each bench until she finds one that's just right. We shall see..... right now I'm just enjoying playing around with movement.
This is a blog of processes. Through the sharing of media and writing I am following my impulses, teasing out and unpacking, translating, solidifying, and making concrete my investigations into something that can be shared.
